The Stage Season 2, India’s first English singing talent show on COLORS Infinity, is one-of-its-kind platform for budding musicians to showcase their mettle.
Barbie Rajput, a contestant from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, won many hearts at the show even though she did not advance beyond the second round. The Himachal girl is already a mini-celebrity with thousands of followers on social media platforms.
Coming into the event, she had an unfortunate accident. Despite all that was happening, she didn’t withdrew but walked up ‘The Stage’ with a broken leg and mesmerised everyone with her melodic voice. Judges were all praise for her after the performance.
She was eliminated in a dual elimination round but remained upbeat and didn’t complain. She was graceful on her exit and said, “The production and the channel were extremely supportive and it was really kind of them to help me. I cannot thank them enough”. She said she would have stayed longer had it not been for her deteriorating health conditions.
She further added “I am extremely fond of dancing and that was the only intimidating thing stopping me from going on ‘The Stage’. I had refused to participate post my accident, but the production house insisted. My USP is singing and performing to upbeat songs. And I gravely missed that on ‘The Stage’.
Barbie’s first shot at a talent hunt show was Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa back in 2012, when she make it to the finals. She has also worked as an actor in a movie ‘Ishq Unplugged’.
Barbie Rajput, trained in classical music as a child, started performing at the tender age of 9. After making her mark on singing reality show like, ‘ Zee Li’l Champs’ and ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, she released her first music album at 17.
She credits Sonu Nigam for getting a go at the western side of Indian music. She started with Hannah Montana and Taylor Swift and later Rihanna. Beyonce is her favourite music artist.
