In the first-of-its-kind initiative to go green, Himachal Pradesh is going to be the maiden state in India to run electric buses, Transport, Technical Education and Food and Civil Supplies Minister GS Bali broke the news while addressing a press conference at his residence here today.
It will start with a trial run of the electric bus across teh Manali to Rohtang route in the coming 10 days. Already arrived at Manali, the bus will travel 200 kms in one charge. Once the first trial run is successful, tenders would be invited from transporters to introduce more buses. The government has set its preference to India-made buses.
Mr. Bali also announced his plants to ply mini air-conditioned buses on the rural routes while some mini AC buses has already been introduced by The HRTC on the Nagrota Bagwan – Chandigarh route via Tanda Kangra connecting with the railway station and airport at Chandigarh.
